LOTR BFME DirectX Error fix

After installing Lord of the Rings Battle For Middle Earth 2 I kept getting DirectX Errors, and the program wouldn’t start.

I realized that somehow the program wasn’t able to change resolution.

To fix this I added -xres 1680 -yres 1050 after the quotes in the shortcut.

“C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II\lotrbfme2.exe” -xres 1680 -yres 1050

1680 and 1050 is my widescreen resolution, you should add whatever resolution you have set in windows if you get this problem.

Hope this helps

  1. k i found that, but now i get a problem with shortcut window.

The folder “C:\Program Files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II” =xres 1920 -yres 1080′ specified in the Start In box is not valid. Make sure that the folder exists and that the path is correct.

I tryed the Target also and it did the same thing.

  2. No its not valid you dont have the exe file defined at all. Path to exe and exe file name in quotes, then -xres and -yres. Read in the post again, I have an example there of how it is supposed to be.

  3. Awesome! Worked perfectly.

    Here’s how:

    Copy: -xres 1680 -yres 1050

Right click the BFMD shortcut on your desktop (this should be there after installation). Click “properties”.

In “target” paste -xres 1680 -yres 1050 after the quotes with a single space. Now replace 1680 and 1050 with your screen resolution.

    Here is how mine looks:

    “C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth ™\lotrbfme.exe” -xres 1216 -yres 698

Click Apply. It may ask you for administrator permission. If so click ok.

This worked instantly and perfectly for me and should for you as well provided you do it right.

    Thanks to the original poster!!!!

  7. After having resolved the access violation error I was still getting a Directx error, nothing was working. I skimmed a response http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/120400-13-lord-rings-battle-middle-earth-direct-issues and glossed a possible fix that, in an event that nigh brought me to spurting orgasm, actually worked for me. It has NEVER ONCE resolved anything in the past yet in this instance it did.. The quintessential worthlessness of ”Run in compatibility mode Windows XP Service Pack 2” fixed the issue. So creamy. Right click the Lotr Bfme Shortcut, click Properties, click the compatibility tab and tick the Run in Compatibility Mode – Windows XP Service Pack 2. Never thought it’d work.. And it did. May as well try it if you’re out of ideas.
