Remove messenger in Windows XP

Windows XP installs with msn messenger as a default. An old version of this client that is just taking up resources. To get rid of this pesky little thing go to the start menu, choose “Run” and type:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

…in the “open” box and klick ok.

An advanced inf-installer window will popup, and then prompt you to restart. Voila, messenger is gone!

  1. Good to see you back on your blog. Your tip is very helpful to me–I’ll go get rid of that pesky Messenger right away. I actually liked Windows 98 better than XP, not just because I like to live in the past (though I sometimes do) but because I could play all my ’95 and DOS games on it. Now, I have to cope with patches and fixes. Some of them still don’t work. Have not been forced to try VISTA yet….we’ll see. Thanks for the info.
