After installing Lord of the Rings Battle For Middle Earth 2 I kept getting DirectX Errors, and the program wouldn’t start.

I realized that somehow the program wasn’t able to change resolution.
To fix this I added -xres 1680 -yres 1050 after the quotes in the shortcut.
“C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II\lotrbfme2.exe” -xres 1680 -yres 1050
1680 and 1050 is my widescreen resolution, you should add whatever resolution you have set in windows if you get this problem.
Hope this helps
Thanks!!
I had also this error on Windows7.
My resolutions are 1920 1080.
..your suggest did not work to my computer
can you give me another ideas about it? thanks
It dint worked
can you give me another ideas about it? thanks
i have xp and i dont know what to do
i dont understand what file to type that into. or if its a modification to a file
Nurper. In the shortcut to the exe file. If you dont know what a windows shortcut is ask someone who knows how windows works.
k i found that, but now i get a problem with shortcut window.
The folder “C:\Program Files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II” =xres 1920 -yres 1080′ specified in the Start In box is not valid. Make sure that the folder exists and that the path is correct.
I tryed the Target also and it did the same thing.
No its not valid you dont have the exe file defined at all. Path to exe and exe file name in quotes, then -xres and -yres. Read in the post again, I have an example there of how it is supposed to be.
didn’t workkkkk win7
Awesome! Worked perfectly.
Here’s how:
Copy: -xres 1680 -yres 1050
Right click the BFMD shortcut on your desktop (this should be there after installation). Click “properties”.
In “target” paste -xres 1680 -yres 1050 after the quotes with a single space. Now replace 1680 and 1050 with your screen resolution.
Here is how mine looks:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth ™\lotrbfme.exe” -xres 1216 -yres 698
Click Apply. It may ask you for administrator permission. If so click ok.
This worked instantly and perfectly for me and should for you as well provided you do it right.
Thanks to the original poster!!!!
